Most digital shoppers still aren't sold on AI shopping

Key stat: Nearly half of US digital shoppers (47.1%) have not used AI to shop and aren't interested, according to an April 2026 survey from Bizrate Insights and EMARKETER.

That resistance tracks with a deep trust gap. Just 7% of US consumers trust AI platforms like ChatGPT to manage the shopping experience end to end, compared with 25% who trust retailers to do it, according to a Bain survey.
The skepticism isn't universal, though. Younger shoppers are already buying through AI, with 61% of Gen Zers and 57% of millennials using an AI-powered tool to complete a purchase in the past year, according to PayPal's Holiday Shopping Survey conducted by Talker Research.
